The central problem that the movie describes is the resulting consequences that have occurring from the introduction of a nonnative fish into the lake. Before the 1960’s the lake had natural fish that belonged to the area. Later fish scientists introduced a foreign fish which has decimated the local fish population.
· Economic – From my view, the local population for the most part completely depend on the lake as a way to generate some income. There is extreme poverty among all the inhabitants. The money that is generated from the production and selling of fish is basically leaving the country and heading elsewhere.
As a result, once could argue that there is no local economy and if there was, the money made from fish does not benefit the local economy. The only thing that is actually imported into the country are illegal weapons and just enough supplies that are used for the sole purpose of keeping the needed equipment running. Everything is forgotten, no food or medicine is brought in.
· Educational – It seems as thou the only education related thing that occurs is research that is done for the sole purpose of anything that is in regards to the management and production of the fish. There seems to be no type of education that is available to the locals. As a result of not being educated, a great deal of people die from prostitution which spreads STD’s because they were not shown or given condoms that could help save lives.
· Ecological – It appears that all of the local usable and valuable local resources have already been used a very long time ago. As the result the land on which they live on is completely batten. In addition there are probably countless crashed planes that are on the land and water which have been left were they lie and have been totally forgotten.
According to the fish factory manager, they export around 500 tons of fish daily. This must have an impact on the ecology of the lake. As a result of this there is a great deal of fish byproduct that is produced that is discarded daily in countless truckloads that is just thrown into a great big trash piles. At a later point in time the mounds of fish are burned.
· Behavior – The inhabitants will try almost anything to get the items that they need by many means be that fighting one another, prostitution, or asking for money. The locals seem to be second hand citizens or even as slaves in their own country when it pertains to foreigners. Meaning that foreigners can tell the locals whatever they want as long as the pay the locals.
· Technological- There are planes that are used but they are only used with the sole purpose of importing arms and exporting countless tons of fish each day. The planes only come with arms and nothing else that could otherwise benefit the locals. The additional technology that is shown is only used for the production and distribution of the fish. The locals do not come anywhere near with any given technology other than some advanced fishnets.
I do not find the film really compelling at all. I already know that there is already extreme poverty in the world and that I cannot really do anything about it. Most of the film did not compel me at all because it seemed as thou it was no trying to convey one main message.
It did not compel me to get any additional information. I do not know who the audience the film was targeting; it may have been made to the people who eat the fish. It did not foster any imagination in me because it showed everything already. The only people that the film may change their view points are people that are completely unaware of the current situation within the country.
The video did a somewhat good job in given various perspectives of the parties involved. It showed how the people who are directly involved with the catching, processing and disposal of the fish are affected by the production of the fish. It showed the view of the world when they showed the conference of people from various organizations. I do not think that the film was overly balanced in that its showed that the people involved with the fish were no benefiting in anyway from the production of fish.

One being the kids on the beach fighting for a very small amount of rice. Another example is seeing the people who throw away all the fish into countless piles.
